THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING AN AMAZING EVENT IN HONOR OF THE TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE THOMAS FIRE
FROM THE FIRE and CHABAD OF OJAI, invite you to attend a special evening in honor of the two year anniversary of the Thomas Fire. An evening of film, conversation and auction to benefit those still struggling from the effects of the fire that surrounded our town two years ago.
The purpose of this evening is to celebrate the inspiration and creativity that rises out of moments of tragedy and devastation. Whether an artist who lost their life's work, to a family who lost their home, to a parent who lost their job, to a community surrounded by fire, we all continue to have the inner strength and passion to create something new out of loss.
To celebrate this we have chosen to screen THE LIGHT OF FIRE and then have invited members of our community who were inspired to create something new during and after the fire two years ago. In closing we have a handful of really good things to auction off to you.
Our speakers this evening are: Lisa Casoni and Heather Stobo of the Porch Gallery, sharing the inspiration behind Beato Chocolates Karal Gregory, sharing the inspiration behind Ojai Spirit Ray Powers, sharing his perspective on inspiration after the Thomas Fire Alice and Richard Matzkin, sharing their experience of the fire and the loss of years of their work Gary Lang, sharing his experience with the Thomas Fire and his perspective on inspiration.
Our Auction Items include: An assortment of Beato Chocolate Four Ojai Spirit Wine Classes Two signed copies of FROM THE FIRE. These are the last two copies available in this single run of the FROM THE FIRE book and more...
All proceeds will benefit the Greater Goods Relief Fund. The fund has served the Ojai community since its inception immediately after the Thomas Fire hit Ojai in December, 2017. The distribution this December will be the last distribution the Relief Fund will be making. Our hope is to be able to contribute a substantial amount to help those members of our community still struggling.
Join us on December 1, 2019, at 6:30 at the Ojai Art Center, 113 S. Montgomery Street, Ojai. A $15 donation is suggested. Questions—email [email protected]
Thank you so much. We hope to see you.

A bit more about THE LIGHT OF FIRE film:
In a time when "sensationalism" and negativity rule, the story of Yoram Raanan, an American-Israeli artist who rebuilds from a sudden fire that destroyed forty years of work is not just powerful but necessary.
Just like his post-fire paintings were darker, this story doesn't overlook this personal catastrophe that was the fire. But just as they were also filled with a new kind of light, this story shows how much of our reality is what we make of it. With resolve, courage and faith, great loss can be transformed into a new, more profound beginning.
This is a touching and up-close thirty minute film about resolve in the face of loss, but also about faith, family and searching for a sense of place.
